Water Damage
When excess leaves accumulate on your roof, they’ll often end up in the gutters. Too many leaves in the gutters can cause clogs that keep rainwater from draining properly. Overflowing gutters can cause significant water damage to your roof, walls, and foundation. Be sure to clear leaves and other debris out of your gutters during the fall to keep everything flowing smoothly.
Lawn Damage
While your lawn starts to go dormant during the fall, this doesn’t mean it’s okay to let large piles of leaves accumulate on top of it. A thick cover of leaves can actually kill your grass by preventing sunlight and air from reaching it. Wet leaves can also cause mold growth, which can create serious problems for your lawn.
Safety
Finally, cleaning up leaves helps keep your property safe! Be sure to clear all leaves away from your sidewalks, driveway, and front steps, as they can be slippery when wet. A little extra raking will help prevent slip and fall accidents.
